I'm a pretty nostalgic guy, which is one reason why I care so much about the concept of legacy, I suppose. And when it comes to material things, few items represent legacy better than a classic timepiece. It's a reminder of days gone by and that we shouldn't take anything for granted, especially when it comes to the limited time we have with our kids.

When I stumbled across the Declan James Watch Company, I was not only struck by the classic nature of their designs, but I fell in love with how their founder incorporated legacy into the art of watchmaking. And the more I learned about the company, the more I knew it deserved a conversation on the podcast.

Today's episode features Brian Dougherty, the founder of the Declan James Watch Company. He also happens to be a Navy SEAL, where he has served for more than 8 years, including two deployments with the Teams and one-shore duty assignment as a BUDS instructor.

Brian's inspiration in starting a watch company was that he wanted to build something for his sons. And as a SEAL, he is instilled with a higher purpose of creating a legacy for his sons, one in which they can be proud. There are some great insights in this conversation. And if you've ever thought about your legacy as a father, you do not want to miss this.
